Why is Restaurant Week the best seven days in Columbus?
July brought the heat with good food, good business and a good cause
There are a few things we look forward to each year– Ohio State football, the RDP food show and Restaurant Week: Columbus. Not only are we a huge fan of the latter, but we’re also proud to be an annual sponsor. And Restaurant Week does more than highlight crazy good food in Columbus at a fraction of the price; it awards the Mid-Ohio Foodbank with a $10,000 donation.
This year RDP contributed $5000 to that donation, the rest of which was matched by Restaurant Week patrons with their purchase.
How Restaurant Week: Columbus works
It’s pretty simple. Restaurant Week: Columbus is a weeklong event featuring fixed-price menus at over 70 restaurants. Each location offers three-course menus priced at $15-$35 per person. And every night, eateries across Columbus are packed with hungry locals looking to try one-of-a-kind appetizers, entrees and desserts.
We mark our calendars for Restaurant Week not just for the impossibly good (and affordable) food, but because at each event the Mid-Ohio Foodbank is presented with a $10,000 charitable donation. This means that while you get to try the new restaurant you’ve been eyeing, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank is able to serve thousands of Ohioans in need. Now that’s what we call a win-win.
Why the Mid-Ohio Foodbank?
The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is dedicated to feeding hungry people by collecting and distributing food and grocery products, educating the community about hunger, advocating for hunger-relief programs and collaborating with others who address basic human needs.
Evelyn Behm of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank explained that every $1 donated allows the Mid-Ohio Foodbank to distribute $8 worth of food to its beneficiaries.
“Besides the contribution that did so much to get the word out about the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, it is great to know that premier restaurants support the cause – and it is great for diners as well,” she said. “We love being affiliated with the event and are thrilled it will happen again.”
Thanks to everyone who came out for this awesome event, and stay tuned for the next Restaurant Week: Columbus in 2014. In the meantime, find out how you can be a part of more exclusive events throughout Ohio as part of the RDP family.
