Growing up during the hardscrabble times of the Great Depression, RDP foodservice founder, Richie DiPaolo, watched as his parents often provided meals to hungry neighbors from their small corner grocery in Columbus’ Italian Village. Folks often stopped by with next to nothing to spend but would leave with enough to get by. That commitment to serving others remains a hallmark of the RDP philosophy.

At RDP foodservice, we are grateful for the blessings we have received over three generations and 50-plus years of business. An essential part of our company’s mission is to provide our support to a range of charitable organizations. Among the organizations we support are:

Nationwide Children’s Hospital

RDP and the DiPaolo family have had a longstanding relationship with Children’s Hospital dating back to the mid-1980s. The relationship grew out of the DiPaolo’s fundraiser–a Columbus-wide pizza challenge known as “A Slice of Columbus” (formerly the Columbus Pizza Challenge). This annual event, held at the LC Pavilion in the Columbus Arena District, has raised thousands of dollars in donations for Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Columbus Zoo

The DiPaolo family believes that the success of the Columbus Zoo is not only important to the community, but also to the preservation and conservation of wildlife. RDP has been a major sponsor of Zoofari, the largest fundraising event held at the zoo, which showcases Columbus’ variety of restaurants and bars. RDP promotions have awarded customers with zoo memberships and many RDP events have featured animals from the Columbus Zoo with hopes of generating awareness of the zoo’s conservation efforts.

Mid Ohio Foodbank

RDP foodservice works closely with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank by donating products and services every month. Food donations are then distributed to people who need it most across central and eastern Ohio. The DiPaolo family is committed to finding ways to eradicate hunger in Ohio communities, and partners with the Foodbank on this mission through co-branding and creating awareness over the course of the year.
